scarf,stole,shawlの英語と日本語の違い [Knitting]
Ravelryをみていて思ったのですが、どうも日本語のスカーフ、ストール、ショールと英語のscarf,stole,shawlは同じではないようだなと気づきました。
日本語でスカーフというと、エルメスとかに代表される布帛でできたもので、ニットものには使わない。
Ravelryでは、首の周りに巻き、肩までは覆わない大きさをscarfといっています。
shawlはよくでてくるけど、stoleはあまり出てこない。
日本語では長方形のものをストールというけど、英語では長方形の細長いものも肩まで覆う大きさだとshawlといっています。
それでwikipediaの英語版でしらべてみてびっくり。
